Sure, they grow up, but they remain your kids forever. At least cats and dogs have the decency to die after ten to twenty years. So, for those who prefer shorter term relationships, pets (not parrots, though – they live forever) are the way to go. Plus, as kids age – unlike dogs – they stop getting excited about your return from work.
